Comparing Apps - Android & iPhone
Speedometer - Speed
iPhone
Android
This app works too, again the use of red against black is common, the blue gives it depth,
more detail which helps when its the correct size. The gauge marks in
white give it that little bit more detail of what the app is about.

iPhone
I like this app as it's clear, precise and more importantly if it were the actual size that it would be on the screen then it would still be resemble what the app is meant to represent.
The colours work, the red definitely stands out against the black which highlights the unknown and with the red meaning speed and excitement the combination just works.

Pedometer - Steps
iPhone
This app is clear as it sends the right message about what the app is for.
It's complex and when the app is at the correct scale it is clear what
the app could be about, however it could be interpreted
as maybe a mapping app, or a walking app? Not counting steps.

Android
This app is very detailed, if this were to scale then I don't think it would be
very clear of what it is meant to be about. The shoe stamping down
on the burger I think is a relevant concept but it doesn't work on a smaller scale.

Decibel Meter - Sound Pressure
iPhone
Again, the iPhone's apps are sometimes more clearer. On a small scale
I would still be able to work out what the app is for. Without the word decibels,
I would think it was maybe a speed gauge,
but with the use of that small use of typography is appropriate.

Android
The android version has again more detail which on a smaller scale could be
illegible. But the small use of typography again helps to express
what the apps about. The colour here also helps to understand the gauge.

Barometer - Atmospheric Pressure
iPhone
The app looks brilliant upon a close-up and with the HD
of a iPhone screen you would still be able to work out
what the app what for, you'd still be able to
recognize the dials and the pictogram inside.

What is an iPhone?
iPhone;
The iPhone is Apple's first Internet-enabled smartphone. It combines the features of a mobile phone, wireless Internet device, and iPod into one package.
The iPhone is Apple's first Internet-enabled smartphone. It combines the features of a mobile phone, wireless Internet device, and iPod into one package.
Perhaps the iPhone's most innovative feature is its 3.5-inch
multitouch screen. This screen allows an interface based on touch,
rather than a keyboard, mouse, or stylus, and allows items onscreen to
be manipulated by two finger touches, rather than just one. The iPhone
can also be viewed in landscape or portrait mode, with the screen
automatically shifting based on the angle that the phone is held at.
The iPhone runs a version of Apple's Mac OS X operating system.
Features;
- iPod/MP3 player
- Video playback/widescreeen option
- Wireless Internet access, using WiFi and GSM
- 2 megapixel digital camera
Design for Digital Media
The Brief
You are to research and design seven icons for Apps for the iPhone. Present, planning and development for each icon in your sketchbook.
A digital company has produced seven Apps in a series. Each icon should demonstrate the concept of the theme but icons should also show by their design that they are part of a series.
The seven Apps are all measuring devices:
- Speedometer
- Pedometer
- Decibel Meter
- Barometer
- Thermometer
- Anemometer
- Altimeter
You should use the correct measurements and carefully consider the very small scaled of the Apps' icons. You should also show in your sketchbook the navigation or usability of your App but the App does not nee to actually function.
As well as the producing seven icons for Apps you should also provide your sketchbook a competent navigation/usability plan and some thumbnails for actual pages of one of the above apps. You do not need to produce final designs for these but your sketchbook work must demonstrate the elements of interactivity within an app.
